2005 - 2006 Issues
In 2005, the bank began issuing a new family of notes, reduced in size to make them more convenient to carry, and with improved security features to make them more difficult to counterfeit. The 2,500-franc denomination was discontinued.
Each note has a 6-digit serial number and 1-letter prefix. The prefix on each denomination starts at A, and advances alphabetically over time.
New signature varieties have prefixes that resume where the preceding varieties end.
According to a press release dated 28 August 2020, the Banque Centrale des Comores introduced more robust 500- and 1,000-franc notes (B306c and B307c) on 1 September 2020. These notes are like the preceding paper issues, but printed on the Banque de France’s EverFit composite substrate. The bank also indicated that
the 2,000-franc note (B308) “will soon be printed on more resistant and varnished paper.” The revised notes will circulate in parallel with existing issues.
