General informationPeoples Bank of Kampuchea
On 10 October 1979, the Peoples Bank of Kampuchea (also known as the Bank of Cambodia) was re-established as a central bank by sub-decree No 1211 of the Council of the Revolutionary People of Cambodia.

1979 Issues
These notes were issued by the Vietnamese-backed Communist regime of Heng Samrin which overthrew Pol Pots Khmer Rouge regime in 1979. They bear no signatures and depict rural Cambodian scenes.
Because there were no banknotes then in circulation and the economy had been severely disrupted, the government gave away the new notes to encourage their use.
