General information: 2011 - 2013 Polymer Issues
In response to a dramatic increase in the rate of counterfeiting, in 2011 Canada began replacing paper-cotton banknotes with polymer notes which are reported to be more resistant to forgery and will last “two to three times longer,” saving money in the long term even though polymer notes are initially twice as expensive to produce as paper notes. Canada relies upon Australias Securency as the sole supplier for the polymer substrate.
The unifying theme of these new notes is “frontiers.”
