General information: 2006 Issues
When introduced on 10 January 2007, the second Sudanese pound replaced the Sudanese dinar at a rate of 1:100. This new currency was mandated by the 2005 Comprehensive Peace
Agreement signed between the Sudanese government and the Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement to end the countrys 21- year civil war. Deputy Governor Badr-Eddin Mahmoud said the cost to print the new currency was US $ 156 million.
These notes are the first in the world printed on Louisenthals Synthec, a cotton substrate with approximately 20% synthetic fibers for greater durability. Synthec also features LongLife coating to protect the substrate from moisture and soiling.
The substrate for the 1-pound note was switched to Hybrid at some point (exact prefix range to be determined), but the printer wasnt satisfied with how the ink adhered, so Hybrid was never used on the other denominations.
