During a military coup on 25 January 1971, army commander Idi Amin Dada seized power from President Apollo Milton Opeto Obote. Among the hundreds of thousands of people killed during
Amins 8-year dictatorship was the first governor of the Bank of Uganda, Joseph Mubiru, whose signature appeared on the first Ugandan shilling notes.
Uncirculated
notes with signature 4 are available with prefixes punched, reportedly to prevent use if captured by rebels. So-called “war notes” can be easily faked, and as such arent cataloged.
