LibanonDe naam Libanon komt uit de Semitische stam lbn, wat "wit" betekent in het Aramees, waarschijnlijk een verwijzing naar het besneeuwde Libanongebergte. Julius Caesar noemde Libanon Lub Na'a, wat "Wit Land" betekent.
De naam kwam op zijn vroegst voor in teksten uit de Bibliotheek van Ebla uit het derde millennium v.Chr.
