General information: 1991 - 1997 Issues
On 15 November 1990, the 7th Grand National Assembly voted to change the country’s name to the Republic of Bulgaria and removed the communist state emblem from the national flag.
After the fall of the communist regime, these new banknotes were issued depicting famous Bulgarians from history. Since 1991, Bulgaria’s banknotes have been printed on substrate from Papierfabrik Louisenthal, Germany.
